CEO
Evaluation
Why conduct a CEO evaluation?
A high-performing CEO is one of the most powerful drivers of a company’s success. According to McKinsey & Company (2023), the CEO alone accounts for up to 45% of a company’s overall performance—highlighting the unique influence and accountability that come with the role. Exceptional CEOs do more than deliver results: they set strategic direction, build strong leadership teams, shape culture, engage stakeholders, and create long-term value.
Despite this, many Boards lack a structured, evidence-based way to understand how their CEO is truly performing — beyond reviewing financial outcomes. A well-designed CEO evaluation will help the Board calibrate perceptions, identify strengths and development areas, and gain a true 360-degree view of the CEO’s impact. Without this, how can the Board be confident in its most important people decision?
When done right, a CEO evaluation builds trust, strengthens alignment, and creates a platform for meaningful dialogue between the Board and the CEO.
It also supports the CEO’s ongoing development—even for experienced leaders operating at the highest level.
About our CEO evaluation
The CEO Evaluation is a structured 360-degree assessment designed specifically for CEOs. It gathers input from both the Board and the executive management team—along with the CEO’s own self-evaluation. This approach allows for a rich understanding of how the CEO is perceived by key stakeholders and provides valuable insight into alignment—or gaps—between perspectives.
The evaluation covers two key areas:
- Business Results How the business is delivering across core strategic and operational dimensions.
- CEO Competencies: Including Strategy & Direction, Operational Control, Execution & Change, Organization & Leadership, and Stakeholder Management.
All survey responses are fully anonymous and GDPR-compliant, creating a safe space for honest, constructive feedback. This gives the Board a clear, unbiased view of the CEO's performance and enables targeted development for even the most experienced leaders.
